BGCSWVA 1 0f 42 Funded Pilot Organizations

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia is one of 42 clubs participating in an exciting project to build capacity around academic success, career preparation and outcome measurement. The project is made possible through funding provided to The Boys & Girls Clubs of America on behalf of the Tides Foundation and the Google Inc. Charitable Giving Fund.

Through the Tides/Google grant, the 9th Street Boys & Girls Club will receive $21,000 for participating in two pilot initiatives.

One initiative centers around strengthening academic success and career preparation programming for young people aged 14-18. Pilot sites will complete an academic success/career preparation program assessment with BGCA staff. Following the assessment, pilot sites will complete an action plan for program improvement, receive support to implement the plan and share best practices. Ongoing consultation will be provided by senior-level national staff.

The other initiative involves piloting a BGCA Outcomes Measurement System. BGCA is undertaking a large-scale initiative to aggregate data from local Clubs to enable BGCA and all BGC organizations to demonstrate the positive outcomes that our youth achieve. Data will be collected  on outcomes in three areas: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles and Character & Citizenship. 9th Street will be the first to pilot this initiative in the Spring 2011, with the expectation that all of the Clubs will participate in Fall 2011.
