Two Foundations Award BGCSWVA

Recently both the Beirne Carter Foundation and the Roanoke Children’s Fund awarded funds to Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia.

$15,000 from Beirne Carter will be used to construct a stairway from the parking lot to the playground. The current route to the playground takes youth through the parking lot toward the street, and requires a lot of vigilance and guidance from staff to make certain conditions are safe.

$1,800 from The Roanoke Children’s Fund, managed by the Foundation for the Roanoke Valley, will be used to prepare 5 and 6 year olds for school readiness by assisting them in learning basic skills, such as personal hygiene, how to dress, basic word, letter and number recognition, and appropriate classroom behavior.
