Cobbs Foundation Gift To Aid Area Youths
A generous gift from the Helen C. Cobbs Foundation to the
Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia emphasizes both the important role
BGCSWVA has in the lives of youth in the Roanoke
and New River Valleys, and the impact one person can
have on the lives of many.
A long-standing and active member of the Roanoke community,
Helen Cobbs led a life of service to her community as a member of First
Presbyterian Church and Daughters of the American Revolution, as a volunteer at
the Presbyterian Community Center and the History Museum of Western Virginia,
and as administrative assistant to the Dean of Women and the President of
Hollins College.
According to a brief biography from her estate, Helen
enjoyed people and wanted to make them feel welcomed and, if need be, cared
for. Consequently, her final request was to always provide for those of the Roanoke Valley – children, adults, those in
need, and those who love education.
BGCSWVA is one of many organizations deeply honored by the
generosity of Helen Cobbs. We will use her gift wisely while making a positive
impact on the young people of our community.
